The wings of this beautiful Paper Kite butterfly (Idea leuconoe) are thin and delicate, almost transparent. It was resting on a yellow lantana bloom, which is a butterfly favorite in any summer garden.
The Idea leuconoe, is also known as the paper kite butterfly, rice paper butterfly, large tree nymph, or in Australia the white nymph butterfly. It is a butterfly known especially for its presence in butterfly houses and live butterfly expositions. It has a wingspan of 12 to 14 cm.
I photographed this beautiful butterfly at the Franklin Park Conservatory, in Columbus, OH.
